The Worlds Largest Pool - For Now

I thought I would start small... just kidding.  Lets go big.  The worlds largest pool, as documented in the Guiness World Record back in 2007, in Chile.  The pool is over 1 kilometer long, which is over 3,300 feet.

The pool, which is more like a small lake, holds about 65 million gallons of water.  That is huge, but they will get bigger.  There are larger projects in the works too, expect to see this 20 acre monster surpassed soon.

Not only is this pool large, it is also very clean.  Crystal-Lagoons is the company that built and designed this pool, or lagoon as they call it.  It is designed with a high efficient cleaning system that uses a lot less energy per gallon of water than almost any other pool you have been to.  They use a technology called pulse-based disinfection, which is claimed to be 100 times more effective using less chemicals then a traditional pool.  There is not much more detail about this cleaning system on their web site, but it sounds good.

The water in the pool ( or lagoon ) is clean enough to be used in spas too.  The operating costs are actually not that high considering the size and number of people that make use of the pool.  At roughly $336,000 per year, which may seem like a lot, is fairly small considering the size and number of people that use the resort in a year.

The pool also supports nearly any water sport ( non-powered ), such as wind surfing, sailboats, kayaks, snorkeling and more.  It really is hard to think of this as a pool.

If you want to visit and experience this pool, check out the resort here San Alfanso del Mar
